RULE CHANGES

Phlux Football is evolving. As we continue to develop the sport and refine the rulebook, our core design philosophy has always been about balancing chaos with strategy. We want a game that delivers non-stop flow, protects player safety, and fundamentally works in a three-team environment. After running through the mechanics, we’ve made a targeted update to the Official Rules to ensure the game plays exactly as intended.

Here is a breakdown of the newest change to the Phlux rulebook and why we made it.

The Drop Punt Mandate

The Rule: To score an Edge Strike (kicking the football between the outer Edge Posts), players must now execute a drop punt. This also applies on passing via kick.

The Why: This is a massive upgrade for both safety and game flow. Gridiron footballs bounce unpredictably. By forcing a drop punt, a player must establish secure possession first. It cleans up loose play, and turns the Edge Strike into a highly deliberate, practiced athletic skill rather than a frantic scramble.

Hand signal changes

Some changes have been made to hand signals on score to increase clarity. Umpires no longer raise fingers to signal points. For a Tower Strike two arms are raise above the head. For a Edge Strike one arm is raised above the head.

What's Next?

This mechanical tweak represents a major step toward locking in the definitive version of the game. You will be seeing these exact, streamlined rules featured in our upcoming explainer comic.

We are incredibly excited to see how players naturally adapt to the shifting alliances, the Mega Play, and the new drop punt mechanics as the sport continues to grow. Grab a dodgeball, protect your wedge, and we will see you on the Action Ring!
